Taping down a partially corrugated roof?

I've read the reports here of the one piece flat roofs oil canning and folks mention the ATC corrugated roofs (which also have a pattern embossed on them) don't, I don't think one vs two piece really matters at all in this context. Those roofs are screwed down as well, so multiple variables in play.

What crossed my mind is what if a roof had a different corrugation pattern with wider bottom flats and those were lined up with the framing members to allow it to be taped down with VHB? The metal company appears to offer patterns with 1" high and either 2" or 3" low which could accommodated something like this I'd think. Probably would need to avoid embossing if taping. Does/would the corrugation likely avoid the oil canning alone...

It was a thought that crossed my mind as my build nears decisions on roof sheeting and siding.

When I mentioned the "oil canning" to Stan at FWC, he said that they DO tape them down. One person who brought in a FWC with oil canning had FWC remove the roof, which was very difficult because the roof was STILL taped down. So, that's not the issue.

Folks have speculated its the flat sheet of aluminum popping. Hence I was curious if some corrugations but with a wider flat bottom width (to accommodate easily landing on a frame member) might be a way to insure against oil canning while still being able to tape down the roof and have less screws in the roof.

That would be nice, but it seems like it might be more complicated? I LIKE the idea that smooth = bad, it makes "common sense"; that does not make it true. I always thought that it was the screws that make the difference too. Dunno. Maybe it is JUST the corrugation, like dimples on a golf ball....?

I have an older grandby with 2-pc roof. It has screws in multiple rows the full length of the roof and has the corrugated pattern for stiffness. It still suffers from oil canning. The rolling turbulence across the top of the roof at high freeway speeds causes + and - pressure on the thin roof eventually stretching the skin and causing it to loosen or oil can.

Facinating. I had oil canning while driving (I think the OP and others are complaining about oil canning while camped) in one rig until I added a fairing. It was the truck cab roof oil canning, and that was really really loud.
