Thanks Monte! Glad to see you and Julie out and about. We were down in Ajo about the time you were in Kofa it looks like.

Thanks Monte.Sitting here in our "sun" room listening/watching the rain and reading the first 3 parts.
Very nice story. The part about your truck thinking/talking to you is scary. The machines are taking over after all.
Lots of great vistas and of course rock art.Are the "tanks" to catch rain runoff for the animals?
Frank

Frank, yes the water is for the wildlife. Bighorn sheep are the big ticket animal here. We saw several. As you saw in the blog, there are also well sites with windmills and solar pumps that fill water basins. On our previous trip we met USF&W folks trucking water into sites that were accessible by vehicle.

Part Four is also completed and I've edited the first post, adding the link. Thanks all of the kind comments. I'm not done yet, but I'm making good progress. :)

Nice trip so far, they are being written about as fast as I can read them it seems. It takes me months to get into the dentist for a cleaning, glad your incident was solved so simply!

I'm exhausted trying to keep up with you two! Maybe not physically, but my eyes are getting a real workout ... o_O Following along in word, photograph and tracing your route in Google Earth is strenuous but oh, so much fun! And I think there's one more story to write? I've lost count ... :ranger:

I have a question, Mr. Pin, about the tanks in part three that are nowhere near any mines or old camps, it seems. Why did Fish and Wildlife construct them? Surely not just for the benefit of the quail.......

Thanks for the great trip report. It is a joy to see you both out and about with the new camper / truck. Good times and wonderful adventures!

Kofa is a National Wildlife Refuge. The water catch basins (tanks) were developed to hold water for all the wildlife. They are not associated with mines, camps, and such. The big ticket critters in Kofa are quail and bighorn sheep.

I was in Kofa in Dec/Jan (couple weeks around new years). It was an amazing trip! We only saw one other vehicle for the week or so we were in Kofa, until we were on our way out the Quartzsite side. That place (Quarzsite) was getting ready for a big convention and was completely insane! Maybe it always is.

Thanks for your trip reports. You found some great hikes!
