Maybe Ben or Marty can chime in. I just picked up a porch light and want to install it on the rear side for the awning. Back in 2001 Marty told me it was pre wired but I don’t know where to make a hole and pull the wire out.

If I could get a measurement from the back forward, and down from the top, OR?, that would triangulate it. You know “X” marks the spot.

It is on a 2001 FWC Ranger. Thanks

Thanks to a old post from WarpathEngineering I was able to see under the skin. http://www.wanderthewest.com/forum/showthread.php?t=355

I see in the picture (below thanks WarpathEngineering) the side light would be just below the top of the window. Ben or Marty would I be drilling the mid point between the window and the back of the camper? My Ranger is longer?

Pictures are great.

I added one to my 2004 Hawk. Drilled the hole dead center behind the light with a half inch drill bit and fished the wire out with a hook.

This kind of helps too. From the ATC website.

Thanks craig333, yours will be too high for me to have the awning.

Here is a Eagle with the awning and the light. I was calculating to drill a 1/2" hole where the black circle is or down the dashed line. In this spot I will be low enough to clear the awning. I guess my question is the wire going to be in the same space on my Ranger as the Eagle.

"Ask twice, drill once"

I too am interested in this information. I think I'll wait for Ben or Marty to chime in on the correct location as I'm not ready to add the light yet :D

that looks a little high.....the bottom of the light on the factory unit is close to the bottom edge of the high corrugation. does that make sense?

Hi Jeff,

That does make sense. It is just a drop of 1/4 - 1/2" and I can use that seam to seal out water from the top. Thanks for pointing that out.

I think if I drill there then there would be a loop of extra wire that I can fish out. Just want to be close so there is not alot of fishing(cursing).

I will ask Jeff in the morning about the measurment that you are looking for. My memory seems to recall about 8" from the back and 6" down. Don't hold me to that one though. I will check with Jeff and find out for you just where it should be.

light position

Just talked to Jeff and he remembers the measurments, just doesn't remember the order of them. The wire is either 10" over and 8" down or 8" over and 10" down. The over would be from the back wall.

One way would find someone who has one around your year and ask them to measure where it is. The wire should be just about center of the light on a camper.

Another way would be to take the overhead storage off on that side of the camper. Then you could remove the screws along the top of the wall and be able to pull it out enough to see exactly where the wire is.

I hope some of this helps.

Thanks Ben,

I do have the Ranger and I have the closet where you are talking about the overhead storage is further foward. I'll check it out tonight.

lights

In that case you would have to remove the closet enough to pull the top of the wall back so that you can see the wire.

Call us if you need any help with it.

For those that have the Ranger ~2001 model I found the wire. I drilled once and found insulation. Then went inside and took the back closet loose and pulled back the inside siding. Low and behold the wire is there but I’m too far over. Measured ~ 5.75” - 6” from back wall to be the maximum to drill. 10” down worked just fine. I was in the lower right area of the cavity. I would suggest a look inside by pulling back the siding first to locate the wire. There is not that many screws and does not take long.

Like all the other wire fittings, the pre-wired fitting fell off in my hand. Most of the fittings on this camper I had to re-crimp. The worker must have had a bad day or not a firm grip.

So the light is on and all works great.

light

Glad to see that you were able to find it. Will have to tell Jeff he was off a couple of inches on that one. Thanks for letting us know where it was. I am sure it will save some headache for some others who want to add theirs later.
