Water leak after dewinterization

Those gray fittings are Schedule 80, which is much stronger and UV resistant compared to the Sch. 40 white fittings. If it was pressure that caused the Sch 80 fitting to crack, it would be almost impossible for the white fitting to not be in worse shape.

I'm guessing the fitting had a manufacturing flaw (Yay global manufacturing!). Especially if it was a linear crack running straight from one end to the other. I think these fittings are either molded in two halves and joined, or the mold is a two-piece, since they always have a linear mold line or seam running lengthwise. I've seen pipe fittings have similar defects before.

FYI, there is a tool called a riser extractor or riser remover or nipple extractor, associated with irrigation work, as cheap risers are commonly used to attach sprinklers to the supply line, and they get snapped off. The extractor is a simple tee-handle tool with a sort of "toothed" conical head that gets inserted inside the riser. The teeth angle counter clockwise, so they bite into the inside of the riser, and grab it enough to unscrew it. I'm not sure if you could fit the tool in that tight space though, but you might be able to just tap the head into the riser and unscrew it with a wrench.
