What Derelicts are in Your Back Yard?

Here is one of mine. The Alaskan camper is gone but the utility body and 1973 Dodge Power Wagon remain in limbo in my back yard. Total mileage is 66K. This old Power Wagon has a Dana 70F up front and a Dana 70 locking differential in the rear, both with 4.88s. It has lots of other classic stuff, now all asleep.

Those old Dodge Power Wagons are stout beasts. She's just hibernating right now.

Here is about the only before picture I have of my '78 Scout II which has been in my garage ever since I rolled it off a 3 foot high embankment because of a problem with the wheel nut (I was showing off - sigh, I still hear stories about that). I keep thinking I'll get to it soon, but something else always comes up to eat my time and money. It's only body damage and I drove it home, hoping a cop wouldn't see me.

Does the Scout II have a V8? The big International truck engine? Has anyone converted them to fuel injection?

The body on your truck is great design. It could be a supurb offroad camping machine. It ought to be like a Jeep and go anywhere. There is a guy near me here in Huntstille who has two of those, completely restored, in his yard. Those trucks are sharp. Yours looks to be fairly rust free? There must be a cult following for them, sort of like the Power Wagon people.

Big V-8

It has the biggest V-8 they offered in the Scout, a 345 CID that's rated at 305 ft-lbs torque at 2000 rpm.

What it lacks in comfort, it makes up for in durability and determination. It's gone every place I asked it to (and a few I didn't ask it to).

I have a pretty good history for it. It spent several years in Arizon, then came to the Central Coast of California, so it's relatively rust free.

I guess just about any rare vehicle has it's own cult following. It's instant kinship when we see each other.

Yes, it's been done by a number of people and the results are very good. The big advantage is in driveability and cold start. Some report significant improvement in fuel economy and some don't. I think that's more a function of who is driving it.
