Yet another Baja Diesel question/update? (YABD) :-) and Jerry Can filling

Time to head back to Baja for us (in Jan, 2025) for a few months. We have a 2022 Chevy 3500HD (Duramax diesel) with a FWC flatbed.

In the past, I've carried 2 jerry can's with ULSD for use in Baja Sur (this was on my EcoDiesel). I've done some research on this question and I can tell you it's still confusing as to if Baja Sur has ULSD or not. Pemex keeps delaying their mandate to have it throughout Baja and other fuel refiners have moved in BUT I'm not sure that they really have ULSD. I know what the pumps might (or might not say for ULSD in spanish) state but it those pumps that don't have any designation and you need to fill up (top off). I find if you ask the attendent in my terrible spanish, no matter what you ask, the answer is always "yes" SOOOOOOOO....

a) anyone actually know for sure what the status is for Baja Sur?
b) anyone that has a similar truck (Duramax) used the "generic" diesel and did you have any issues?

I will take filters, additives, etc. with me and probably the 2 jerry cans so I can mix it with any questionable diesel I get. Which also leads me to ask this......

You aren't "allowed" to bring fuel in the jerry cans across the border but has anyone ever been checked? I know that right across the border there are a lot of "US" stations that for sure have ULSD and could fill them up there but would rather keep on driving once we get our FMM.

We've camped in a ton of different places. We normally head down the gulf side, head over the Pac. side by Coco's then continue south to eventually turn back north and head up through the wine country (Valle de Guadalupe).

we discovered a great place, just north of guerro negro, in 22. a nice family has some palapas, and restroom, etc. with about 2 miles of beach to the south. Esmeralda, pacific side, obviously, the road in is right at the military inspection station north of guerro. i missed the turn the first time due to the inspection station and not noticing the road. anyway, its a great place, good family. we even dined with them (and paid them city prices for the great meals). we really enjoyed this place.

Thanks kcmcintryre and goinoregon ... we are making our first trip down to Todos Santos in mid March. Have a 2016 diesel Sprinter and somewhat concerned about ULSD availability in Baja Sur. Plan to take some jerry cans down too but won't last the month we are there.

I'm new to the diesel vehicle world too. When you say you are bringing filters and additives, what specifically do you mean? Filters for your vehicle? Or filters for the fuel before it goes into your tank? Additives beyond DEF? I'm ignorant on this and could use a hand!

Also, if you could let us know how your journey went that would be great. Thanks and safe travels!

i am driving a 20 sprinter now. put the 40 gal tank in a year or so ago, so when i do fuel up, it will last for awhile. i am not planning on any additives, but just paying attention. there are nice gas stations in all the larger towns. i use the talk baja forum on facebook, and there is always pretty good info on fuel.

What I've found so far is that Tesero stations name ulsd way down here in la paz. Others? I'm not sure as it's not stated on the signs at the street so I'm assuming it's not. They just state the cetane rating and we've used it with no problems. I brought 5 gallons of def. I brought a fuel filter just in case too and 10 gallons of ulsd in Jerry cans just in case of an issue and offloaded 5 gallons into my tank.

Thanks ... will check out the FB forum. We only have a 100L tank and get about 500 miles per tank on it.

Thanks ... and great to know La Paz has ULSD. That would solve all our concerns!

I took fuel filters, oil filter, and if you are there a long time DEF is hard to find so bring a 2.5 gallon box...
