You know you're a geezer when.......................

When my first wife and I married, I rented a two bedroom cabin on a 40 acre ranch backing up against forest service land for $90 per month. Gas was around a quarter per gallon. We could buy a week's groceries at the store 35 miles away for $15. We had two cars insured; her 1967 VW Beetle, my 1961 Cadillac convertible. I made $1.25 per hour.
Thanks for that cool data! For fun, I thought I would compare that to today's costs. It surprised me too!

$90/mo @ $1.25/hr = 72 hours, or about two working weeks (if you are lucky to have such a short working day). You could fill the tank on the Beetle after working an hour (1.25/.25 = 5 gal). Google tells the average US hourly pay rate is $28.16. So, rent $$$ earned after 72 hours of work is $2028, and gas money is $28.60. With the average cost per gallon is $3.22, you could fill the Beetle a few times for that.

Thank you for crunching the numbers! Back then, I traveled around 50 miles round trip to work each day, working a typical 40 hour work week Monday through Friday for a small rural community utility company. Looking back, I never made $28.16 per hour in my life until the early 1990s, working in a borax refinery near Death Valley after several years of starting at the bottom and working my way up to that and beyond.

.........................when you keep asking, "Who's that old fart with the gray mustache?" when looking at photos.
Firing up the Wayback Machine to the time of just film cameras, we found a roll of undeveloped film that turned out to be from daughter Kate’s high school graduation. In it was a picture of someone that none of us recognized.

After a few minutes of pondering, we figured it out. It was a photo of me without my mustache. Taken the only time in the last 47 years that I was without the furry lip.
