Fall 2018 western trip, New Mexico, Dog Canyon trail out of Oliver Lee Memorial SP south of Alamogordo. Common southwest cactus but I love the leaf "engraving". Pattern reminds me of some native American art. What is the evolutionary basis for engraving art on a cactus leaf?
