I think this might be it. She was pretty vague about it. I'm going to try to get some more info from her next time I see her

I found this today

The 199,502 acres of the Blue Range Primitive Area remain one of
Arizona's wildest and lightly visited places. This is a land of rugged
mountains, steep canyons, and stark ridges that is at the same time
remote yet accessible through an extensive trail system.

“The Blue”, as it is known colloquially, contains the eastern end of
the Mogollon Rim, a spectacular escarpment that marks the southern
terminus of the Colorado Plateau, identified by author Zane Grey as
the “Tonto Rim” in his novels. The Rim itself is a unique geological
and ecological feature, especially where the spectacular Blue River
Canyon cuts through the Rim.

I got to speak with my source again, She was referring to Blue, AZ.

It sounds like a spectacular place to visit, there isn't much info on the web about it.

She mentioned having to go through a herd of elk on the road.

there are a couple campgrounds (free) on blue river road south from Alpine. and then Red Hill Rd heads west.

So much to explore and vacations are so short...............

Well I had to have a chat with HR but my vacation request was approved. Suppose I should get an AZ map now :)

NOTE:  The four wheel camper booth is full. We don't have any more spots available.      :(

But for any of the Four Wheel Camper Owners that have already signed up with us, and are planning on staying in our booth . .

IMPORTANT Overland Expo Check-in Details:

This is some important move-in information we just received for Overland Expo Camping next week.

Please plan to arrive and set-up between 8:00am – 6:00 pm on Thursday May 16th.

If you arrive after 6:00pm on Thursday evening, the Overland Expo Staff will need you to, and will require that you camp offsite or get a hotel.

(there are other events in Flagstaff that weekend and hotels will be scarce / expensive)

If you can't make it Thursday, then coming in early Friday morning will probably be your last chance.

Friday move-in is only available from 7:30am - 8:00am on Friday morning.

Be prepared to come early, as there is sometimes a line at the mail entrance to get it with all of the other vendors.

ENTRANCE DIRECTIONS:  Enter at main entrance to Fort Tuthill County Park: Beulah Blvd/89A & John Wesley Powell Blvd (Fairgrounds Rd).

NOTE:  No moving vehicles in and out of Exhibitor area / Exhibitor booths during show hours. This is for safety, dust, and noise control.

Sorry for this late notice. We just received this from the show promotors.

I'm hoping for a spot remote enough I can let the dog off leash early in the morn before most arise but I'll definitely stop by and say hello to the FWC crew.

I am leaving East TN tomorrow evening (5/10) and once I hit NM will be meandering to arrive about noon Thursday.
My current idea is to take I40 to Moriarity, NM then head towards Datil Wells and the Gila NF, go to "The Blue" (Blue River rd south from Alpine, AZ) Then the Mogollon Rim.
I'll see how my timing looks, my plans change quickly.
I'll probably be staying Wednesday night in Camp Verde (resupply, shower etc).
I have a spot at the FWC booth and will be there with my 2 GSP dogs (reason for no bike).

My rig is a white extended cab F150 with a FWC Granby. I'm willing to sit and swap lies with just about anyone.

I haven't decided on where I am going after the Expo, but have many ideas.

Leaving on the 13th but likely getting a late start as I get to work all weekend. Of course management gets to spend Mothers Day with their mothers. Rant off. I'd like to make it as far as the Alabama Hills but we'll see. The further I get the more time to explore Arizona. Charging the camera batts and getting ready to change the oil in the truck. Decided to leave the Jeep at home. Hope thats the right call.
