No off-road use. I have searched the forum and very few people post about a FWC on a 2wd Tacoma.

Fleet shell, few options - about 850 pounds. Tacoma: payload rating of 1290 pounds. I will add Timbrens or Firestone Air Bags.

Current size tires are 215/70/R15 load range 98 or 1653 pounds. Thinking about Goodyear Wrangler AT 225/75/R15 load range 102 or 1874 pounds/tire.

Anything else I should consider?

Comments please.

You wrote "No off-road use", but list AT style tires. I don't go off-road, but do drive some very rocky, bumpy, steep, rutted roads in Utah and Colorado. I have a Fleet with Firestone air bags and added Bilstein 5100 shocks front and back which made a big difference in ride and stability.

I just bought a new set of BF Goodrich All-Terrain tires, being so pleased with the performance of my first set. My 2013 AC Tacoma came with 16" tires, surprised the 2WD has smaller tires, but can't imagine that would make any difference with performance. I chose E-rated sidewalls as I really don't want to have a tire failure in the middle of nowhere. My spare is also the same tire.

I bought BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 LT 245/75 R16 120S E123 RWL this time, the second/improved version.

Hi:

Thanks for the ideas. That is a great build website. The photos with your rig in the desert are beautiful. Really nice photos.

I will eventually end up with a 4wd 6 Cylinder Tacoma when this truck wears out. But it does not seem to be wearing out; still solid.

I should say that this is a 2wd, 2.7 4 cylinder AC cab. The basic work truck. I am confident in the motor, although it's only 159 hp. I have towed 3000 pound boats with it and no difficulties. It is the tires that are the problem. A high load rating or E-rated is impossible to find.

I went with AT style as it has a higher load rating and is still on a 15" rim. I can't find a non-AT style tire anywhere that has a load rating anywhere near an E-rating. They do not exist.

When I look here for the BF Goodrich All-Terrain:

https://www.kaltire....ml#productSizes

I see a few sizes on 15" rims:

31/1050R15(109S)

35/1250R15(113Q)

I think the first two will not fit the 2wd basic AC Tacoma; the tires will rub. The first two tires are usually on Jeeps as far as I can tell.

The third size one has a 111 pound higher load rating than the Goodyear Wrangler I was thinking about; 1653 vs 1764.

The last size has a 104 rating which is 1984 pounds. But I think rubbing with the 235/75/R15.

Then the BF All Terrain T/A K02:

Again the 100 load rating and a 104 load rating.

Either of the 215/75/R15 would be fine?

Thank you!!

In addition to being stiffer my experiences with load range E tires is they last longer. I ran two sets of Toyo AT2 back to back with the second set being load range E. I got about 15k more miles out of them.

You can't go wrong with BFG A/T.

Great choice. A bit more expensive than some other tires, but well worth it.

Noise can also be an issue with AT tires and KO2's are pretty quiet.  I have them on my Tacoma, although on 17 inch tires and like them.
