Been toying with idea for a while so used spring flowers in borrego to try out,NO it is not replacing 4x4/fwc!
since gas is getting out of sight the wife and i thought i would be fun to once in awhile to go back to basic's,tent camping,no tv,no extras(except for engle 12v!)
As i am some one who is always changing things i have also changed our econo-box(2003 Toyota Echo 5 speed) to a multi purpose vehicle rear seats removed, panel between trunk and front removed, platform (like i did for 08 tacoma )carpeted with tie down point for engle frig.,extra battery box mounted in trunk with feed from manual switch in eng compt.Once loaded up with all Camping equipt there was not room for any extras!
We had no problems, extra batt. ran frig with no let down, camped at mtn palm spring (south of auga caliente park)hiked the old Indian trails between palm canyons ,also some canyons west of Shelter Valley (near Pacific Crest trail)All in all a couple of nice spring days in the desert.Just a couple of pics.
Drive slow and enjoy (we did and got 44mpg!)

Hey Les where are the flowers??? Any large groups this year?

I think it is great that you do get out there and see the west in what ever you want to drive. 6 more years and I'm gone as much as possible. Have to wait to see if there is transportation as we know it. Somebody invent a better way. Crank and pistons have been around way too long...Take the leap somebody.

Alex,i know our 2008 taco gets 16 most of the time, our 2002 got 18+ (4 cyl 5 spd) we thought about getting the 2008 with 4 cyl but toyota has made them to big, would it not be nice if they would come out with a new version of the early trucks!,i for one would be willing to go without all the bells and whistles to have a basic rig that got great mileage!Hope things don't get so bad that we have to go back to touring on our bicycles, but then we did enjoy it.
Drive slow and enjoy "its the journey"
