Personally, I think the overhang is a non issue. If the person is concerned, have them call Brian at Alaskan and talk it over. There are a lot of Alaskan campers out there... Still going...

All you folks are amazing in spending the time to respond to my friend's dilemma.  I appreciate your thoughtful comments.  Today, as it now turns out, he has decided that dealing with the 10 ft. cabover on his regular cab pickup is too much of a jump.  So he is now in the market for 8 ft. non-cabover.  Issue dropped it looks like.  Thanks again for your inputs.

Alaskan has been selling cabovers for a very long time.....and installing them on regular cab long bed pickups....

To expand on that valid point^^^^....
4 door pickups being very common is a fairly recent change.
A couple decades or so back they were pretty rare, and before that almost unheard of...
So, yes, cabover campers have been mounted to std cab pickups for a LONG time, including ALASKAN Campers.
