Great pics. Thanks for posting them. Lightning is nothing to take lightly. I was trying to follow the mormon emigrant trail to the boundary at kirkwood ski resort and turned around due to lightning. You are right out in the open, no cover at all. Better safe than sorry. Course that was in the Jeep, without even a softtop for protection.
