I am remodeling my old fleet to include a dinette and a 20 gal water tank and am moving to external tie downs. Crawling into the front of the camper and trying to hook up the old tie downs has become a pain the ass, back, hips etc. for this 63 year old body. My Fleet came with eyes mounted in the forward corners screwed through the aluminum frame. I mounted eyes in board of these in a reinforced corner when I was using the mounts inside the bed of my 05 Tacoma. I am now going to use Torqlift front external mounts and the outside frame mounted corner eyes. Has anyone had any problems using these early corner mounts? The rear is similarly mounted to eyes in the frame and to a bar through the trailer hitch mount.I have had no problems with these mounts.

Nix

I would think it would be fine for regular road travel ,but you might want to install some metal plates around the front ones. The wood can rip through on a baja stlye road.

How close our you to finishing the project?Any remodeling in progress photos?
Cheers

The eyes are actually bolted through the aluminum frame at the outside corners which should be much stronger than going through just the wood panels. I have driven some long rough wash boardy roads and have not seen any problems so far. The Fleet is new to me several years ago so I don't know if this was a factory eye mounting or installed by pervious owners. It is a Colorado built Fleet. Have any of the other older Fleet owners had bolted through eyes similar to mine? How did they work out?
