The new software has a feature called "Tags" - you will see them at the bottom of a thread. Tags allow content to be categorized in a highly flexible way. For example I have started tagging many threads with the phrase "camper mods". Now, using tag search (under search at the top), I can bring up a list of threads tagged with "camper mods":

http://www.wanderthe...tag=camper mods

We have discussed in the past creating an index of camper mods and this is how we will do it now. I encourage anyone that wants to contribute to this effort to add one or several tags to threads that you create.

At this time I am not sure if permissions allow you to tag other member's threads. Please let me know

Guidelines:
Tags are comma separated. Example: camper mods, solar, electrical

In order for the value of this system to be maximized, tags must be uniform. Example: "camper mods" with an "s" on mods would be the appropriate tag, not "camper mod". If you are unsure of the form of the word that has been used, simply start typing the word, wait a second or two, and a little window will pop up with suggestions on tags that have already been used (if there are any).

Please, if you sue the tags, please take this seriously. In another forum I managed the tag system was abused and used jokingly to the point that it had to be removed. Let's use this feature to create a better resource for everyone.

Thanks!

Tried it. Tagged the dog rescue thread. Works fine.

Can you change from "tags" to a set of predefined categories?

Not yet, but later versions of the forum software should offer some better categorization. Ultimately I would like to have optional categories like state for trip reports but we would still use tags as it offers a very flexible system of structuring information.
