Some friends invited us to their cabin warming party a couple of weeks ago up in Tom's Place near Mammoth. I figured we'd head out a day early for an overnighter in the Alabama Hills on the way up (anything for an extra night in the camper :D).

We made it to Lone Pine around 9ish on Friday night, had a real good time trying to find a secluded spot in pitch darkness, I don't know how many camp sites I lit up with my KC's before I found one for ourselves. By 10:00 the fire was lit and I was enjoying a nice Glenlivet, everything was perfect.

We woke up to a nice, clear day and some pretty spectacular views of Mt Whitney. Some shots of camp and surroundings the next day...

The next day we started heading up to Mammoth but did a little exploring along the way...we found ourselves in the middle of a bona fide cattle round up right before getting back on 395...it was pretty classic.

We got to our friends place, enjoyed a day full of horseshoes, volleyball, killer BBQ, libations and great live music. At one point there was nearly as many dogs as people, the hounds had a blast! Quite a few folks camped out on their property and we wound up the evening by a nice campfire.

For you Colorado folks the musician's name was Kort McCumber out of Boulder but he plays all over the place, VERY talented cat, highly recommend checking him out if he's in your neck of the woods.

The next day we tucked tail and headed home with our hangovers in check after a nice greasy breakfast. It was a whirlwind of a weekend but well worth the effort.

Saw a Hawk/Tundra combo in Lone Pine on Friday night and thought I saw LQHikers headin' northbound in his Six-Pac in Independece on Sunday...was that you Les?

I like the picture of your dog on the rock (that kind of sounds like the name of a drink, hmm). Regarding the picture of the sleigh on the bolder, is that were it came to rest after the spring melt?

WOW Sonny,

Those pics look great! Looks like a good time was had by all. Dig that pic of Gunner up on the rock :thumb: Thanks for posting.
We should get some of the local boys and girls here on WTW and plan a trip to the Hills.

Dayum...

Those would make for some perfect desktop wallpapers. Some of the best 'FWC on the trail' shots I've seen. Wish I had taken them.
