Hey there, happy new owner of a 1970 8' NCO.

 

I am spoiled by using modern compressor stuff, so unfortunately this 2 way has to go. I found the screws and nuts under the panel in the bottom holding it down, I can lift it a bit in the front, but I can't slide the sucker out. Is it just really heavy, or am I missing another mounting point somewhere?

 

Maybe I need to take the vent off and shove it from the backside...

Certainly remove the vent(s).  You probably have more screws in there.  Make sure your plugged gas line is properly plugged, and doesn’t leak.

Thanks, I removed the inner vent last night and didn't notice anything else back there. I'll remove the outside vent tonight and take a look from that angle. If nothing else I 'll have better leverage to give it a shove.

 

Already cut the gas line and pulled it down into the cabinet below. There is a good chance I wont run any propane in this thing when I am done. I never had a need for propane before, I use a diesel furnace for heat, and I like countertops better than a 3 burner stove.

should be a couple of screws through the frame into the plywood base it sits on....accessed from the outer door at the back of the fridge.

Got it out. No screws at the back, only the two I found in the front. The culprit was an "extra" screw that was added from the wardrobe area into the side of the fridge.

 

How come none of y'all told me the lower back door has to come off the get the thing out? Hahahahaha. I'm not strong enough to lift it over and out the upper door!

Might as well update the thread. 12V compressor fridge in place for test fitting, much lighter, colder, no venting needed. Also created tons of room behind the unit so I could hide away the house battery and various electronic bits. Final fit was shimmed up a little higher, more flush to bottom of drawer.

Oh yeah, I could actually carry this one through the doorway!

What brand fridge did you buy?

That one is called "Bodega" its 2.3 cubic feet or 65 liters. I have never used this brand before so I am reluctant to give a recommendation. So far so good, but really I only fired it up for a couple days. It made ice in a day's time, it's quiet, and drew about 5A when the compressor kicked in.. You can run it as a fridge only as well if you don't need the freezer part.

I don't really like words plastered on my stuff so I figured out that I could reverse the door panel to get rid of the logo.

I have a 2018 Alaskan with the 12 V DC Nova Kool factory installed refrigerator only and it will only cool 40 degrees F less than the outside ambient temperature which means on a 90 degree F day the fridge inside the Alaskan is 50F.   Obviously, I need something that does a better job than that.  All the best on your new install.

Well, that's too bad popRoid, Nova Kool are supposed to be a good fridge. I have had great luck with even cheap 12V compressor fridges (Costway/ ARB for one). I have camped in 100 degree desert and still had cool drinks.

 

I wonder if Alaskan left the big huge vent on the side of the camper behind the fridge as if its still an absorption type? I know I blocked off and insulated the one on my camper. Maybe there is a child who opens the fridge too often and/or leaves it that way?
