So after getting my jerry can mounted, I got the itch to do another warm up mission until I can get clear of some last minute work this week. I did some reading and decided that some fun Kodachrome images could be made of all the jeepers, ATV and dirt bike riders who would likely come up and over Imogene Pass at 13,114 feet between Telluride and Ouray.
So off I went, up and down the Ouray side to save time. I left late Saturday and spent the night part way up the pass, rated 4/10 and camped at around 10,600 feet up, I just did not feel like pushing a fully loaded Toyota and camper up steep rock in the dark.
After a good night's sleep, I made some oatmeal and hit the trail. Once I got to a spot on the upper shelf road where turning around would be impossible, of course I found an impassable rock slide was blocking me. So I got out and started moving rocks with a tire iron. But one of them took more of a finesse approach as it must have weighed at least 300 pounds or more. I made this photo of it on the way down this morning to show where I had moved it, some 4 feet out of my path:

Even though my handy shower curtain rod holder was on the other side, I took a piping hot shower at 13,000 feet on the side away from all the passersby. I made a nice rock floor to stand on. This might have been the best shower I have taken in my life, it felt surreal in that environment:

Mostly nice shelf road, some off camber stuff and some steeps. The jeep crowd was impressed I hauled my rig up there, it really was no problem, the suspension was outstanding and the supercharger made any grade a cruise.

All in all, a beautiful couple of days to be out shooting and romping around. I made some really fun Kodachromes from the summit, will get them back in a week or so. But I am headed out, this rig is ready and I am ready to live in it for awhile.
A fun image to end on, the little ATV that could and the big one that DID..

Wow ...
Great pics and story. I really like the shot with the sliver of moon above your rig. Outstanding.
