Hello!  2020 Bobcat owner and loving the camper.  We are have issues with consistent lighting of our stovetop.  It will light sometimes and then not at other times - on the same trip with no moving, no turning off the valve, etc.  This past trip we cooked dinner with both burners just fine and when we went to light one about 20 mins later, neither would light. They lit for ~ 1 second like it was just burning fuel in the lines.  The next morning, and the rest of the trip, they worked just fine again.  Previous trips they have not lit for several attempts and even a day sometimes lighting but producing a weak flame.  I have already replace the regulator and the tapping trick of the safety check in the hose connector.  We have plenty of fuel in the tank. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be the issue?  Could the safety check be faulty?

Congratulations on choosing a ATC Bobcat.As a fellow Bobcat owner since 2009 they are a great camper.

Have you checked with Marty about the propane problem? He should be able to give you some answers.

Ditto what Vic posted, Are you on the same tank though out all these failures? Its possible your propane supply is contaminated with moisture.

Do you have a furnace, and if so, is it having any issues?   If the furnace is ok, I suspect the issue may be with the stove itself.  As Vic mentioned, you might have spiders in residence, or some form of debris. That made its way into the stove.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies.  It has cut a few trips short so we are hoping to get this figured out.  Unfortunately, Marty has been a bit MIA on some other questions we have had so I turned to you all.  (I also have a few "upgrade" ideas coming that I hope to get some opinions and guidance on in the near future).

 

I am going to order some new lines as they are getting a bit stiff anyway. I also ordered a 1lb tank adapter to test the system without the tank and can carry as a backup.  We don't have any other propane appliances to this is just a stovetop issue for now.

I've had issues twice with liquid developing in a propane hose line, once in my camper and once in my boat. I removed the lines, blew them out and all has been great since.

Our stove is very fussy about lighting with the built in lighter so we use a butane lighter. In your case it sounds like there is limited propane to the burner. Vic is probably spot on but there could be a piece of something behind the orifice that randomly plugs it.

Do you open your propane tank valve slowly?  If you go too fast it can ruin the brand new regulator.  Ask me how I know.

Thanks everyone. I loosened the set screw on the tank valve to bleed off the tank a bit (YouTube idea) and replaced the connector hose from the tank to the regulator. So far so good but we still pack a backup camping stove just in case.
