Hi All,

Currently own a FWC (8') Grandby on a late-model Ford F350 6.7. Although I like my truck fine, I have always wanted the 2000-era Dodge ram cummins, my dad and brother own them and they really are as bullet-proof as everyone claims.

I found a Short-wheel base 6.75' bed ram and wondering if it is possible to essentially make it a full 8' bed by installing a flatbed? I think if the flatbed was installed as-is it would alter the center of gravity, probably not a big deal with the Grandby weight, but perhaps a problem if using a full size some day.

Does anyone know if flat-bed fabricators can extend the truck frame to essentially turn it into a long bed, or if they can install a 8" flat bed on a 6.75" truck?

Thank you

Maybe apples to oranges, maybe not.

When  I found my old 65 Chevy SWB 4x4 and awoke it from it’s decades long slumber it had an 8ft welders flatbed on it. But hey, it was a factory 4x4 so I had to have it! When we drug it out of the barn and into the daylight though, it was the goofiest looking thing I’d ever seen. I wouldn’t give that old farmer his money until he took that ridiculous long flatbed off, then I happily hauled the truck home.

Just my personal experience for what it’s worth, but I’d reconsider that idea before you get in beyond the point of no return. Good luck, I agree those old Dodges are great trucks
