We will soon be putting our house on the market. Before that we will be ordering a Norweld 8ft weekender atop an F350. Atop of all that a Grandby FWC. While all this is being put together, unless all the timing is perfect, we’ll be living with our kids for a few weeks or a month, or two. All of our household goods will be kept in climate controlled storage. Here is my question: what are the exact dimensions of all the storage compartments? I’ve been searching for quite some time and cannot find the answer. Once I have the dimensions I can build cardboard mock ups and find out what gear comes with us, what stays in storage, or what goes to the road with a free sign on it. Example; we have some really nice camp chairs. Will they fit? Back packs, day packs, air pumps, food containers, cookware, etc etc. thanks for any help. Peace out!

Sounds like you're talking about a flatbed grandby? Is this a new build? If so might be easiest to ping FWC and ask for the details you want, if its new they should be supporting their customer's inquiries. Not sure how many grandby flatbed owners are on the site here and that is a fairly specific question.

Yes, flatbed. I’ve called FWC and the gal that answered hasn’t gotten back to me yet. (3 weeks) I’ll try again.

First, congratulations you'll love your new rig.

My 2 cents; we just took delivery of a new FWC Grandby. We spent the last 5 months doing the same thing. Pre-planning all our storage and organizational philosophy.

After the first trip our initial "plan" is out the window. I would suggest spending a weekend or two getting to know your new baby. Then slowly customize your storage aproach.

Thank you. For about 25 years we keep taking these "once in a lifetime tours" a couple times a year and always have to come home. 

 

 We will be living with our kids in RI once our house is sold, and everything will come together in New Hampshire at Mainline Overland.  We'll do a couple of week shakedown run in Maine, NH & Vermont.  Our organizational philosophy for the past 25 years has been, "keep it simple stupid"  & "less is better".  The longest we were ever out was 9 weeks at a time. Home for winter, then back out again a couple of times a year, usually spring and fall. We will be getting a pair of those Owl boxes mounted on the rear bumper to keep all of our back packing gear.  One thing for sure, there will be a lot more stowage space than what we currently have been using.  I built our trailer and kitted out the rear of the Landcruiser using specific dimensions, to fit things  like fridges, backpacks, daypacks,  tripods, camera cases, etc.  Maybe I'm just being a bit retentive, but, hey, I like being carefree once under way.  Congrats on your new Grandby.  Hopefully we'll see you along the trail.
