Just stumbled across this site pretty sweet!
Anyone have an info on Nevada? planing on driving down from Tahoe going the week between Christmas and new years then down to Death Valley for new years.
I was thinking hot springs maybe around Austin or along the walker river any info?

Hey Nater, welcome to the board. I'm Jealous, Death Valley at New Years sounds like a great time.

I haven't visited the hot springs around Austin but I have spent some time in the area and have enjoyed it very much. One place that will be quiet and is a great place to visit is Berlin-ichthyosaur State Park. March of this year:

Be aware the DV campgrounds are likely to be full, even overflowing, over the holiday time. The good news is that Santa comes to the campground

I really liked the area down the west side road, seemed to eliminate many fo the cars. I liked that Hanaupah Canyon. The drive in is hairy for a Minnesota guy, but not too ugly. Watch the weather it seemed like a place that rainwater rushing down the dry creek could be ugly as there is no escape for several miles. But, once in there, what a place! Very cool.

We also liked I think it was called Titus Canyon, pretty cool ghost town, drive. But, lotss of folks and it seems to be the easiest canyon drive in a rental. Lots of people.

Anyway, have fun..

Spencer hotspring between Austin and Eureka NV is a great place to stop. Several maintained springs in stock tanks on top of small hills with a great view. Good places to camp. One of my favorite places although I have not been there for several years. There are others further off the pavement hotsprings in the area. Look at Hotsprings of the west book. Spencers is not so secret anymore. Have a good soak.

No need to get a campsite in DV, you can backcountry camp off of many of the side roads in the valley. Stop by the visitors center and talk to a ranger re road conditions and legal places to boondock. Beats the heck out of the established camps. You can also camp off of the Titus Canyon road outside of Beatty before it enters the park. Have fun.
