is the depth of the bed common amongst all Hawk models? by "depth of the bad" i mean the clearance between the bed bottom board (top surface) and the ceiling when collapsed.

what about the dimension between the top of the door and the top of the back wall?


i dont think all the campers are the same, even amongst models.

Hey Jeff

There are 2 main camper builds for the Hawk model (but really 3 over-all).

The Kestrel Model (fits the 2000 - 2006 Toyota Taunda Access Cab) is approx. 17" in the camper base.

The Regular Hawk Model is approx. 20" deep for most trucks on the market.

The Deeper base for Hawk Model going on the 2004 - 2010 Ford F-150 and 2007 - 2010 Toyota Tundra is apprx. 22" deep.

For for the 1999 - 2010 Ford F-250 / F-350 trucks we build the side walls of the camper 1" taller so the cabover portion of the camper has the proper clearance and is not touching the top of the truck cab.

ok, now look at the cabover height.

with the roof collapsed, the distance of the rooftop to the bottom board of the cabover bed.


mine looks to be about 10 inches.

is that dimension different from version to version as well? some seem a lot smaller.

It varies, but only a little.

Eagle, Ranger, Falcon, Fleet, Finch Model have a cabover thickness of approx. 8" inches thick when closed.

Oct. 2004, or older models, the Hawk, Grandby, & Keystone Models had a cabover thickness of approx. 8" inches thick.

Oct. 2004, and newer models, the Hawk, Grandby, & Keystone Models have a cabover thickness of approx. 10" inches thick.

This extra 2" inches allows us to install the larger refrigerator / freezer unit.

This extra 2" inches adds 2" of interior head room inside the camper when the roof is popped up.

It also leaves approx. 2" gab between the cabover bed mattress and the roof so you can still leave a little bedding up in the cabover bed even when the top is closed.

This answers something I've wondered about since I got my Hawk in late 2005 (but I never bothered to find out ):
Why does the cabover of my 2005 camper look thicker than ones I saw around town before I bought mine??
So: it looks thicker because it is thicker -- and now I understand why! Thanks, Stan.

that extra two inches really helps. as you say it allows the bedding to be stored - on the bed!

Of course they changed it right after I got mine (probably got the last one). Sure would be nice to be able to keep the bedding up there. Ah well.
