I currently own a 1975 hard-side KIT camper (KIT like a fox, not like a build-yourself). It is too big and too much camper for me. I have a Chevy 2500 diesel so the truck isn't the problem, it's the camper. I now 100% realize I need a FWC or ATC or similar, so here I am.

I have located a Keystone that is in rough shape, for sale for $1800. I am curious what you fine folks consider would be a good price to pay for it, as well as what you think I might be in for when it comes to "restoring" it. I would like a porta-potty, 2/3-way fridge, cooktop, sink with hand or elec pump, onboard battery, converter, inverter, maybe a HW heater and a catalytic heater, maybe outside shower. I do not know if there is an existing water tank, I would assume not. I can get nearly every kind of RV appliance used from a local guy on CL.

From the seller:

This aluminum framed camper is a shell only with no heater, shower, etc. By shell I mean I took everything out. The pop up material has no tears and does not leak. Lots of storage space. Known Issues: New Lift panels are needed. I currently have to manually lift the top which is more of an effort than if the lift assist panels were working. I have contacted 4 wheel and all wheel campers down in Sacramento and they have said this is an $800 -$ 900 job for them or they can send you the panels and you can do it yourself. Comes with 4 very used jacks that work but aren't pretty.

Call the guys at Four Wheel and All Terrain and tell them what you intend to do. Unless you are going to do all the stuff yourself as a project, I bet you will be better off buying an newer one that already has everything you want once said and done. Just my opinion.

For starters what year is your truck? Unless its older and has a 64"+ tailgate opening that camper isn't likely going to fit as it look like an 80s model (Edit I see in the for sale thread its an 87'). Considering the age, condition and the project at hand off the bat with the lift panels and the fact it is a shell I'd easily cut that price in half. The 80s campers don't have nearly the resale due to truck fit issues, usually complete campers with normal wear tear from that era are going $1200-2500 from what I've seen.

That is a bit steep on the price considering he took everything out.

If if had the refer, furnace, sink, stove, etc. then it might not be that bad of a price.

But it has a lot of patches on the drivers side to cover holes where he took items out.

2. what year, make, and model truck do you have ?

Great point pods8. I just checked FWC's camper fit webpage and it looks like I need a 1990s or newer FWC since I have a year 2000 truck. Thanks for saving me the hassle of this one.

Four Wheel Campers built before 1990 will Only fit ..

Chevy Trucks built in 1988 or older

Dodge Trucks built in 1993 or older

Ford F-150 Trucks built in 1996 or older

Ford F-250 / F-350 Trucks built in 1998 or older

the $$$ seems on the high side for the keystone , it is just a shell, everything removed, and needing lift panels replace. I own a 86 keystone I picked up about three years ago, it was in good shape and just needed front panel replaced, and some electrical wiring repair, and had passenger side rear jack bend (looked like it got backed into something) cant remember but think I gave about $1200.00 for it and been happy with it, after I did the repairs.
Like mentioned earlier check the measurements to make sure it fits your truck. We really like the old Keystone camper.
