This shows the front window and how it needs to be sealed and closed. They missed that totally on their inspection and on the seal job.

I think the RV dealer should have at least given you the inspection fee back.

That would have been the right thing to do.

But you didn't buy the camper from the RV dealer did you ?

(sounds like you bought it from a private party??)

When you are buying a used camper by a private party, you never know what you are getting.

Expect the worst, but hope for the best.

If you take a used car in for a buyers inspection and pay the shop a fee to inspect it, most shops will do their best to check out the vehicle the best they can in an hour or so and give you an honest evaluation.

But let's say a day or two later the transmission goes out, the inspection shop probably won't be able to know if that was going to happen in every case.

The inspection shop won't put a new transmission in there if you bought the car from a privaty party.

If I remember that RV place, they are just off the freeway ?

Small dealership doing business in a parking lot, I don't think they even have an office ?? They lease parking lot space only from the antique shops next door ??

Mostly selling trailers and tent trailers, and maybe the occassional truck camper.

Sure you could bash them and try and hurt their business, but they are small fries.

I think you would just be spinning your wheels.

This will only add to your lost $$.

If it was a big RV chain, then bad press could hurt their sales.

But being a small guy like that, I think they get most all of their business from people driving by on the way home from work.

Some shops are just not all that good.

Other shops are excellent.

Sometimes the damage in a used item hides itself pretty well and can't be seen from a quick exterior glance.

I'm not saying the RV shop that you used is good or bad.

But count your blessing the guy that sold you the camper took it back, and move on.

Yes, it did cost you some $$ to drive back and forth, but at least you are not stuck with the camper.

If it was me, I would chalk it up as "lesson learned" and try and be happy I got my money back.

Most people will be selling campers like that "as is".

Thanks for the advice.

I did purchase it from a private seller and had the largest RV dealer in his area do a professional inspection for me before I drove 360 miles to pick it up. My assumption was wrong on the professional part so I might be wrong on other assumptions about them.

I don’t think they are next to a floral shop, they are off of the 680 and 80 freeways and have hundreds of RV’s in stock. Their website lists dozens of RV’s in stock, from A, B, C and all the others. They also have a full service department. I’ve never been there, I’m only going off of what I read and seen on the internet, so I might be wrong. If you have a better idea of where they are located please be specific so people know.

The mechanical analogy you use is not a good one. A transmission would be more like a stove that worked on the day of the inspection and failed shortly thereafter. No one could predict that. A better analogy would be a body shop hired to determine if there was rust on a car. A car given a clean bill of health that had extensive rust and body damage on the day of inspection would be more accurate. The de-lamination and black mold was there and obvious to anyone who knew what they were looking for. I did not when I picked up the camper but am now aware of it and could spot it easily when it is as obvious as was the case with the camper I purchased.

I did not buy it and expect the worst and hope for the best. I hired a professional shop to do a paid inspection and relied up them to do what they claimed they could do. They charged me for it and did not do the job. The extent of the damage is so easy to see once you know what you’re looking for. They failed big time and now refuse to live up to it. The damage could have been north of $6,000 to repair and they would have been responsible for making it right.

They got lucky that the seller did not have the title when I picked it up and I withheld the final $10,000 payment. If I had paid him, he might have resisted the refund by saying “you had it inspected and it passed”. It would have gotten ugly.

The legal concept is called Reliance. I relied upon them to do what they claimed they could do, and was harmed as a consequence of that reliance, thus it is actionable in court. I believe I would prevail in court if it came down to it.

They have refunded my CC the charges for the inspection and the half assed seal job. That was a no brainer. My CC would have taken the money back from them if they would not have done it voluntarily. The one thing they could have done to partially compensate me is pay for the gas and the inspection once I got it home. I was paying for the gas to get it, and asking them to pay for the gas in taking it back. Three days of my time was not compensated for nor asked for. Those are charges I would not have incurred had I not relied up on them. They are resisting doing that so I’m letting people know what kind of shop they are. They will do a crappy job repairing anything and don’t use them to inspect an RV. They obviously don’t know how and will not take responsibility.
It’s my wish to save other people the aggravation I had to go through and hopefully warn them ahead of time to avoid this incompetent shop.

As someone new to campers, if the sides or overhand are soft and mushy, it’s not normal. Get a real shop to look at it for you before you buy.

It's sad. I just checked the Craigslist in the area where I purchased this camper.
It's now for sale again and he says"it's been checked out" and recently serviced.

"Checked out and ready to go" I am sure they did this. Does not say repaired. Sounds like Judge Judy needs a call. Some time you just have to let things go, but it just pisses u off to do that. One thing for sure, what goes around comes around, so hopefully you might hear what this outfit got hit with.

And whats this"see around the back roads of America", we got back roads up here too, ha ha
