Well, the kids have decided that Death Valley is not that bad since they want to go back for our July trip. Last year it was only 115 in the valley but a bit cooler in the higher elevations. I posted my Q and A from last year in this thread, thanks STEW!:

What are the most current camping/road condition at Wild Rose, Thorndike and Mahogany Flat that you know of? I will, of course, fill up on water at Wild Rose! I have my new 4x4, but will it fit at MF or just Thorndike? By the way we will only be camping above 7000 feet with at least 22 gallons of water so no worries there.

In the past there has also been a hose at the rangers' cabin just up the road from WR CG where a body could top up on water.

Also, after giving it some thought, I think there is at least one pull-through site up at the small MF CG and a couple of flat, back-in style sites. Maybe the ski3pins have a better memory of MF than I, though. Best to check with them, too.

In any case, get up to MF early in the day to find a spot!

Last time up to Mahogany Flat campground was June 2005. I remember the sites are small, fit the Ford Ranger we had at the time, and we put up a tent. The road had one rocky steep section that we didn't think was too bad. The trees are short but do put shade over the sites. We would not hesitate taking our rig back up there. We got up there mid morning on a Friday and found it about a third full. By noon it was looking like it was going to fill up for the weekend. A little busy for us so we did the hike to Telescope that afternoon and left early the next morning.

Have a good one out there, Roger! Take a hike with the kids up the Telescope Peak trail and see how far you can get. There are some good views of Bad Water Basin along that trail.
