[Buckwheat]

I had a propane refrigerator I didn't like the idea of the flu gasses venting into the living area.
I got a ice box that Caseboy got for me and I installed it today.

I changed over to a Norcold 2 way a few years ago for the same reason...the original refers vented into the living space....the install worked like a charm and is still functioning nicely today...all gases outside

It's amazing how much heat comes from just cooling the coils in 120v electric mode...

I'm a safety crazy...safety first always...it drives other people crazy sometimes...but I always come home with all of them..intact

I removed the old refer and dropped the upper drawer to below the refer so I could use the head space above the drawer for fit. the entire bay was line with the steel skin off an old refrigerator...nice nubble white finish and steel protection from fire if the worst happens....caulked the corners and penetrations with fire caulk. installed a copper heat sinc and a couple computer fans to evacuate the upper end heat from the system...

a little unconventional but works like a charm...and it's easy to vac out and wipe down.

Rusty can you run that with the camper in the down position?

I've run it in the down position on 120v through an inverter. It works, the wiring is critical, as I learnerd, and you would want to make sure the inverter is disconnected when you stop for gas or a meal on the road.....refers will suck your battery down in a heartbeat.

I took mine from California to Flaming Gorge in Utah...operational on the road...frying only one wire It's since been re-wired

But....it will work on the road to keep you cold to the next stop.....a 3 way refer is designed to operate full time on 120v or gas and have a 12v travelling mode...just make sure the 12v battery is on auto charge.

When you say "ice box", do you mean some kind of passive stationary ice cooler? I'm thinking of going with an old Coke cooler in mine, but that ice box looks nicer. Mine came with a house bar 110v fridge in it (the 3-way was thrown out by the previous owner), which is now at the cottage, so I'll need some kind of cooling capability when I do take it on the road. I'm leaning toward a simple no muss no fuss solution, as I don't plan to be too far from convenience stores (i.e. sources of ice blocks) for any extended periods of time, in my envisioned road trips.
Where could I source an "ice box" like yours? RV used parts suppliers?

I believe Caseboy got it at a swap meet. I think you can still buy them new from a RV supplier.

As a icebox it has a tray on top for your ice with a drain hose to drain out the water other wise it just like a small refer unit.

We use our 2 way frig as an ice box because it quit working. We freeze 1 gallon jugs of water. On the road on extended trips we use a small dish pan to put in store bought block ice
