Has anyone used folding metal sawhorses that work really well? I'm thinking of something Aluminum and any recommendations you have would be great.

I have three sets that I use for various home/ranch construction/maintenance projects.

Each set has a different width of "2 by" wood that I mounted on top... 2x4, 2x6 & 2x8, it's nice to have a choice for the project at hand.

Mine are all steel, like the one in your web link.

If you find an Aluminium one I'd be interested in seeing it.

Not sure what you consider "works really well" but, they do the job I ask of them, and mine have individually adjustable legs for uneven ground use. When the ground is soft, I do use some scrap 2x6's at the bottom of the legs.

Individually adjustable legs would be nice but mostly the fold-ability is what I'm looking for and hopefully a height that works well with my truck and camper.

Here is a nice looking one but without the adjustable legs:

Not to set the camper on though - right?  I don't think the sawhorses in the links could handle the weight.

Am I misreading the links (and linked manual for the first one)…the first one holds 500lbs per sawhorse and the dewalt holds 1000lbs per sawhorse -- wouldn't that be enough to hold most camper?  I think mine weighs about 800lbs.

I am not a Mechanical Engineer but my education is in physics and I work in Aerospace Engineering.  I have reviewed a lot of mechanical analyses.  If it were my camper and knowing how the load gets transferred unevenly when my camper goes on and off I would want about 2x margin of safety on the expected load on any support device.

If the camper weighs 1000 pounds I would want a support stand capable of supporting 1000 pounds even if I only intend it to hold 1/2 the weight.  Just in case most of the load accidentally gets put on it.

Also the load the manufacturer is specifying may be (likely is) only along the gravity vector (i.e.straight down).  If there is a little sideways shear those legs may not be able to handle the stress and could buckle so probably need to get the specs on ability to withstand shear loads as well.

The legs on those Aluminum sawhorses appear to have no cross bracing.  I would be a little concerned about that.

Caveat emptor!

Regards,

Craig

Yes, Craig it would be for setting the camper on. I keep the jacks on all four corners as well.

I would prefer 2000pound per sawhorse, so I would be comfortable working inside and even possibly use the bed, but have yet to spot something like that.

One more sawhorse
