80's Grandby Rebuild

Finally got back to it,... 

Used some Lowes marine-grade (surprisingly light) carpet and ribbed it with aluminum floor trim to the ceiling (there is some foam insulation under between the ceiling fabric, roof and stud innards... The pre-wiring for a couple lights and a fan is also done).

Couldn't source an nice sheet of aluminum for the roof, so I used some 4-ply wood from HD and looking forward to laying some epdm roof layering on top of it (did this on my last build), ..... After letting it dry, I'll add the fan, then pop the top (realize I still need to post content on those roof lifters which will get stuffed into that part of the project). 

Here are some up close shots of the roof lifters that I fabricated. . .   

Little bit of 1 inch square tube bending and lots of aluminum welding / grinding. 

The lifters pop the lid a bit higher than the usual,  giving about 37" of upright seating from bunk to ceiling .... Probably not Ideal for super windy days, and will be using a step stool here and there, but I like the extra room for those late night crawl overs -

Thx Man -  Exactly right (overcenter), . . I couldn't figure out the pivot points on my own and after many hours of staring and many more beers than hours, I had a buddy walk over and explain the simplicity of the pivots!  Hilarious!!

And yes, they lock in place at the inside bend/elbow of the shorter posts  (those attached to the roof pivot and center pivot points)...... though I'll probably wrap a velcro strap around them.

Got the glass in today .... tabbed the 1" square tube so I could mount the window frames directly to the camper frame .... welder's mess inside, but will come back and cover the uglies -

Drop a few more photos of your lifter in here, and even some more details of the fabrication. I bet this is a much better V2 version of what I did and I will be sure to point others to this design if they are interested.

I totally owe more info here and always struggle in that department!  It's like I always mean to go back, but get obsessed with the next part of the project!       And you Tim are a major contributor to the next obsessed step (BTW THX)... I am currently in "Speedy Stitcher" territory and have watched your canvas videos where you guys did a crazy fantastic job! .... In my last build, I handed the canvas over to the local seamstress.  But for the current build, I'm opting out of windows, mainly because it just looks really freakin hard and way beyond my skillset!!

Digressing....  I'll do a mini-writeup on the roof lifter and download some more stuff by Monday!  Hope you are all off to a great weekend!

That speed stitcher is a neat tool, felt like a sailor with it.
