I just bought a 1993 FWC Ranger 2. The previous owner slipped a custom 4" thick palette under the camper, which was intended to prevent water damage to the bottom of the camper by keeping the camper bottom off the truck bed. I have a 2002 tacoma and the truck bed is corrugated with 2" ribs with 2" space between them.

Does everyone else just let the camper sit on the truck bed? It seems to me that the corrugation in the truck bed might be enough and it might be better to have the camper sit lower above the cab.

Thanks!

My 2005 FWC Hawk has been sitting on the ribbed/corrugated bed of my F250 for 99% of the past 13 years, all of that outside. No water damage (that I'm aware of).

My guess is it didn't have anything to do with possible moisture damage. My guess is the overhang of the camper wasn't high enough to clear the roof of the truck. Never seen or heard from others having issues. The newer model campers have wood runners that run side to side to get the camper overhang above the cab and also to get the camper off the truck bed

Another coat of paint. Seriously. The orig coating from that era is pretty minimal but can last a long time. But adding a coat it is cheap insurance, I'd say.

If you need/want to elevate the unit, I suggest looking at composite deck board for a material.

My camper sits on 3/4" thick Foamular®.  This conforms to the bottom of the camper so only the edges where the 4 x 8 sheet doesn't cover gets wet.
