We love our Truma in our Pleasureway.  Hated our furnace in our Raven.  The Raven furnace always had a smell to it so we would only use it if it was freezing.  Our Truma is so quiet and no hot metal odor like the Raven.  I just set a good under the covers temp when I go to bed and crank it up a little in the morning.  What I really love is our Truma water heater. I turn it on and in less than a mitue I have hot water.  Since I'm now in a van the hot water is recirculated, so you have instant hot water at the sink, the shower and outdoor shower.

A question. Many of us have installed and use a garage thermostat that allow for a low heat setting down to 35 degrees. How low of a temperature does the Truma varioheat control allow?

Monte, I read yesterday on their page somewhere that the temp range is 40 -86*F

To turn on, you press the button and rotate from off up to your desired temp. So you pass thru the lower temps. I think I saw 42 or so. But usually dial right past them. I will have to check next time I visit the camper on our storage barn.

I have an ATC with the Atwood furnace.  Looks like this takes up a bit more space than the original furnace?  Would be interested to know if this is the case since I would love to replace the jet engine furnace.

I went to the local RV outfit that Truma lists as a dealer to get a quote on installing a Truma to replace the standard Dometic furnace.  He said I was the second person this month who showed up wanting to check out the Truma.  Unfortunately, he said Truma won’t provide Truma he furnaces to them unless they are to replace an OEM unit and for that he needs to provide them with a VIN.

 

Truma lists 4 tech center locations that perform this upgrade, none anywhere close to north central MT.  Anyone have a different experience going through a local dealer listed on Truma’s website?

Same experience for me. Here is the message I received from Truma in regards to my inquiry -

 

 

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding the VarioHeat. Unfortunately, they are not yet fully out in the aftermarket so you will not find any dealers with them unless they are replacing one for warranty etc.

Currently, they are only being installed at one of our four Truma Factory-Direct Service Centers. The locations and estimated pricing on the VarioHeat installation are below:

The four service centers are in Indiana, Arizona, Florida, and Texas. Cost is $1900.

I recently had the VarioHeat unit installed in my 2016 Hawk Shell by the Phoenix service center (mobile service).  For anyone interested, I can share my experience.

 

The unit itself:

 - Overall I am impressed with the furnace (so far - I have not field tested it much other than the drive back to Utah from Phoenix).

 - It will run at a very low noise level (when running on lowest fan speed).

 - There is a "night mode" that seems to work pretty well (quiet).

 - When in normal mode, if the temp in the camper is far below the set point, the fan speed goes to maximum and that will circulate a lot of air (but not so quiet).  As the temperature in the camper gets closer to the set point the fan automatically reduces speed.

 - The thermostat does indeed have a minimum temperature setting of 40 Deg F. 

 - The unit is small enough to fit into the cabinet that housed my original furnace (Atwood Model AFSAD12111_A)

 

Installation:

 - I contacted Truma to request the installation in December and after some back and forth, my service call was scheduled for April 8th.

 - There is one person who handles the retrofit installations for Phoenix area.  It was fun watching him work and interacting with him.  He works out of a mobile van and did the actual work on my camper at a Walmart parking lot.

 - Apparently, he is allowed a certain number of hours for the installation at the quoted price, and it is not much.  He did spent more hours on my installation than allotted but I was only charged for the original quote.  He put in extra effort to make sure I was happy with the installation.

 - However, because I am pretty detail oriented/fussy and like to do my own camper mods, I have done further work to improve on the completeness and appearance of the installation since arriving back home.  (Which I have been happy to do).

 

I will attempt to attach photos of the installation.  Happy to try to answer any questions.
