Check the door-jam yellow sticker for your max payload info....probably around the dry weight of the camper alone.

having trouble finding the weight of an 8 ft, 1968 alaskan.

I would estimate an 8' non cabover is probably closer to 1,000 lbs dry weight. Either way I think a 1/2 ton pickup would be inadequate without extensive modifications, ie. airbags and new shocks/springs.

Upons second thought they may weigh a bit more. I was thinking about when I weighed my 64 NCO but I did substantial remodeling which included removal of cabinets and such.

Anyway after slogging through I found this:
1640 dry
1740 wet
That is for a NEW cabover.

so, after being more than a bit worried reading all the thoughts on the weight of our camper, we took it to our local weigh scales.
first we went with just the truck and returned later with the camper. turns out an unloaded (dry weight) 1968, NCO alaskan camper only weighs 750 pounds. phew...we can keep on camping!!
thanks for the replies, hope this helps someone else later on down the road.
