I've started seeing this floating window in the bottom right corner of my browser a couple of weeks ago, it only shows up once in a while:

WTW-1checkedpost.jpg

The selector box doesn't work, and pressing Go does nothing.

I fired up the debugger and the object is:

<div id="comment_moderate_box" class="ipsFloatingAction" style>

It might be related to an aborted post, where I clicked "multi quote" then capriciously wanted to not post after all, but for some reason there was not a "Cancel" link. But it will show up while reading any post in any sub-forum.

I admit it is not critical, but merely annoying enough for me to take the time to write all this up.

Could I have a corrupted cookie? I don't really want to purge the cookies as I suspect that is how the site keeps track of my read posts or am I wrong? In Safari I can delete all the cookies and cache from a site, but not selected ones.

Does this show up if you've done nothing in the current WTW browsing session?  Like, it remembers something you did on a previous visit -- on a previous day?

Exactly, though the object is effectively empty, i.e., the value of the selection box is "  ".

Does this occur even if the browser cache has been cleared?

(I'm not familiar with Safari, so I don't know how/if this happens automatically...)

Safari typically handles this on its own very effectively. I almost said you couldn't clear the cache without clearing cookies, but discovered that as I have the developer menu turned on I can clear the cache. I've done so now and will report back when/if I see the floating window again...

That didn't take long. As it didn't work.

We made a few changes, and hopefully this should be gone now.  Can you clear your cache and cookies and see if it's fixed?

Thanks for your efforts with the site, Janet. Overall everything works much better and quicker with all the updates and attention in the last several months.

Unfortunately, I am still seeing the floating window intermittently. I cleared my cache, but not my cookies as I don't want to lose the list of read posts… or is that not how it works? If cookies don't hold my last read article, or last read date/time, then I could catch up and then clear the cookies.

Can you tell me what version of Safari you are using?

Version 6.1.3 (7537.75.14)

Janet, don't feel like you need put much time into this issue on my account. There's apparently not an obvious fix and it isn't interfering with the functionality of the site that I can see - it's just a minor irritation when it pops up.

I clear my cookies after each session and I can still get the list of new content since my last visit. FWIW.

I am using Firefox on a Mac.
