Those are the two reasons I went with MaxxFan.  Open in rain and ceiling fan mode.  It fits in the standard opening.

 

The MaxxFan cover sits ~2" higher than the standard vent cover and extends ~5" further to the rear (to accomadate the louvers that keep the rain out).  Current draw and noise levels are the same.

Is there wiring in the roof by the front vent? I have a regular vent there now and my fantastic fan is in the rear.

I'm thinking I'm gonna put the Fantastic fan over the kitchen area, and I've got an additional two if needed 12volt clamp on fans I picked up at Wally World for $11.00 each. I'm thinking I can clamp one to the forward lift assist above the over cab bed. The fans also oscillate.

Hawk ordered with fan above bed but ended up putting another fan above kitchen.  Easier to access fan  when pulling  vacuum while lowering top.
