The XP camper rally is now going to be the weekend of July 10th and 11th and the location is going to be Eastern Sierras at a location TBD. Sorry for the waffling on the date.

Green Creek is located south of Bridgeport. Take Highway 395 south for five miles, turn right on a dirt road and follow it to Green Creek. You may walk from there to Green Creek Lake. The dynamo pond at Green Creek was the site of the first long distance commercial transmission of electricity which went in a straight line (engineers in 1892 thought electricity would run off the wire if turned) from Green Creek to the Standard Mill in Bodie.

I think we can plan on early arrivers on Friday (I'll be there Friday) - rolling in at any time. We'll find a primitive area along that road and camp. We'll either stay at this spot (if we like it) or move somewhere else after Noon on Saturday.

SO: roll in anytime Friday or Saturday by Noon and you should be able to hook up with the group.

Was there a activity you had in mind to do or just find a place and hangout with maybe short drives, hiking or fishing for Saturday. Campground or a back road place to hold some campers with a view.???

I was at the top of Monitor Pass a few weeks ago. Its clear, but very high desert. The view is nice, but the area not that pleasing. There is a dirt road a couple of miles south of Bridgeport, I think the name is green river road. The canyon will be very beautiful now. I was up there about a month and 1/2 ago and it had a little too much snow. We were the only campers. The problem is its eight miles off 395 to the west. If you do go there you will think I am crazy until you get there. Its beautiful, there's real fishing, hiking, or you can just hang out, and you can park at lot of campers together about a mile before the true campground and camp for free.

Just a thought for you. I spend a bit of time over there so I will be interested to see what you choose? I was up on top of 108 last weekend. The snow is amazingly still high, but the water run off is incredible. Many waterfalls everywhere.

DD mentioned he has never been to Bodie so somewhere near there would be good. I have checked out this spot off of Little Walker River Road: 38° 18’ 28” N, 119° 27’ 00” W. It could fit a few campers and is right on the river, but kind of far from Bodie, only a mile or so from the road, and gets a bit of equestrian use.

We prefer back road places to a campground.

Green Creek Road. That looks good on Google Earth. Whether or not we meet there, that is on my list of places to check out. Maybe 4th of July weekend. It is close to the road to Bodie as well.

Bodie was great yesterday. Ted is correct, it is Green Creek Road. Dynamo Pond, part way in, has dispersed camping and is an interesting historical footnote. Darryl is correct about Green Creek, surprisingly large trout but difficult fishing with brushy creek sides and clear water. It calls for long, fine tippets and accurate fly casting. I will find a fall photo of the Green Creek Meadows below the campground and end of the road.

Probably just a nice spot where we could fit 5-7 campers that isn't overrun with rv's. Don't need much else than that.

Topaz Lake (TL) on the California/Nevada border is a nice, comfortable place. Plenty of campsites around the lake and within a few miles there is plenty of public land for dispersed camping. Fishing is available on the lake and nearby Walker River.

From TL, it’s just a short drive (35 (+-) miles) to Carson City. Minden/Gardnerville, Bridgeport and South Tahoe. TL has a casino, convenience store, restaurant (cheap breakfasts) and gas station.

TL isn't a wilderness spot per se, but it’s centrally located for Oregon, California, Nevada and Arizona. The wide & wild open country isn’t far away. To the east is beautiful desert and to the west are the Sierras.

I fueled up at the casino. Cheap fuel. I was going to suggest the white mountains because I"ve never been there, but of course since I havent' been there I don't know where to go. All good suggestions so far. Crossing my fingers I can make it.

Leave South from Bridgeport and you will find the Green Creek Road. Follow this road into the West and there is the first right turn into a valley to the North (pretty). The next junction to the right will take you into an open valley with a creek/river and a couple ponds. It is wide and open with possible group areas. The end of the road is a campground (with black bears that like to roam) and hiking trails that lead off.

Head back to that junction but now go the other way and the road skirts the shoulder of the mountains and heads south. Many possible places to have group sites. This road ends at the paved road to Virginia Lakes. These places are pretty drives in the fall when the Aspens are turning.

This area is close to Bridgeport, Bodie, and Mono Lake.
