I fueled up at the casino. Cheap fuel. I was going to suggest the white mountains because I"ve never been there, but of course since I havent' been there I don't know where to go. All good suggestions so far. Crossing my fingers I can make it.

All the Big Lake campgrounds in the White Mts. are nice but could be crowded. If you go just a little further to the east fork of the Black River there are great camp sites. That's the White Mts. in AZ and bring your passport.

I've played a few times around Bodie.
There is a lot to explore and vast open lands to camp on.

All we need is a starting meeting point and go from there.

Unless someone has a better idea we'll call it Green Creek Road. Camping info:

http://www.eugenecarsey.com/camp/toiyabe/greencreek.htm

From another site:

Green Creek is located south of Bridgeport. Take Highway 395 south for five miles, turn right on a dirt road and follow it to Green Creek. You may walk from there to Green Creek Lake. The dynamo pond at Green Creek was the site of the first long distance commercial transmission of electricity which went in a straight line (engineers in 1892 thought electricity would run off the wire if turned) from Green Creek to the Standard Mill in Bodie.

We're in. Gotta work that day so probably won't get there until later Friday evening.

and you can park at lot of campers together about a mile before the true campground and camp for free.

Sounds like Darryl has a location that will work. We'll just drive until we smell DD's dutch oven cooking. :D

I think we can plan on early arrivers on Friday (I'll be there Friday) - rolling in at any time. We'll find a primitive area along that road and camp. We'll either stay at this spot (if we like it) or move somewhere else after Noon on Saturday.

SO: roll in anytime Friday or Saturday by Noon and you should be able to hook up with the group.

Just learned of this trip from a mention on another forum and am interested in joining in. I saw the XP Camper at the Overland Expo 2009 and was very impressed.

I live about 90 minutes north of Bridgeport and was just down there yesterday scouting camping locations. This sounds like a good one.

I looked a bit and didn't find an "introductions" section. If I missed it, would a appreciate a pointer. Looking forward to getting to know ya'll.

Great we hope to see you out there :) You can post an intro in the lounge forum - that's where the intros usually end up. Welcome to the board!

Eastern Sierras road closures July 10.

For anyone headed to the eastern Sierras, the Death Ride is Saturday the 10th and sections of Highways 4, 88, and 89 will be closed that day. Already bicycle traffic is heavier than normal on these routes as people train for the ride. Plan your routes accordingly.
