Well, when I brought my '97 Ram into CA, I had to get it weighed to get a title for it. It came in at 6720 lbs. with a full tank of gas. Then I got it weighed again after the Grandby, so I could have National Springs build me a set of springs. Here's what I got, full tank of fuel and water,

Front - 4260 lbs.
Rear - 3780 lbs.
Total - 8040 lbs.
GVWR - 8800 lbs.
Camper - 1320 lbs.

I then called the CHP and asked them and they said they go by what is labeled inside the door on the plate from the factory.

Ford must be boosting the GVWR on it's newer vehicles as my GVWR is 10,000 lbs. (read off sticker on the door piller).

I was also pretty surprised when I weighed my Hawk. It was over #1500 lbs dry without water. The sticker does say 740# without options, but with full water tank and full propane. When I added the published weight of each option (and I have almost every option except solar) to the 740# weight shown, there was still a several hundred pound difference. My camper is on a 2006 Tundra Double Cab, and it handles it much better than my T100 did, but clearly a 3/4 ton is the way to go and safer. However, a new truck would be over $50k and that's too much for something I drive about 8000 miles a year at the most.
