I was in between Mar 67 and Aug 77. Mostly helicopters, but caught some time in C119s, a C117 and a C131. VMO 2 and VMO 6 in SE Asia. Hard to believe that I went in 50 years ago. You know that Missing Link was a C130 FE guy...152 when over there....352 when at El Toro

I'm working on a second Alaskan at the present....a cabover for my son....and after careful consideration and years of owning an aluminum boat and the stainless steel screws used with it....
all screws on an Alaskan redo should be stainless steel.
the galvanized coating of most screws serves as an electrical anode on the camper and degrades over time like Zincs on an aluminum boat...hence all the rusted screws on the older campers. The CO I'm re-doing for my son had a repair done by Alaskan in the late 90's...all exterior screws on their repair were installed stainless. It takes a bit of time...I'm well into day 5 removing gutters, eyebrows and trim...cleaning behind the pieces and installing butyl glaziers tape as a seal...installing parts with stainless steel screws and caulking the seams...I'm sure it'll be worth it

This is another great tutorial thread for restoring the Alaskan...as a side note however...
Am I the only one who sees some irony or humor in the fact a post about "PAINT" is being put up by a guy named "RUSTY"?
