Look up tuffy lock boxes. Solid product. They did not make a model specifically for my dakota so I measured and found one that could fit with little modification.

My motto is out of sight out of mind.

I've set up a Pelican 1510 case which rides behind the drivers seat, where I've removed the rear seats of our access cab.  I lock the case to a Kryptonite cable that I've threaded through the metal body of the Tundra storage compartments.  It won't stop someone with time, but smash & grab attempts should have a tough time.   I keep it covered, and my rear windows are tinted dark.

"Out of sight, out of mine"  Is best insurance.

Another thought:  Don't flash your gear around, then walk away from your truck.  I tend to keep most gear hidden from view as a general practice.

Pro tip:  you can slip a laptop between the mattress and the dropped top.  With a neoprene sleeve, we even travel rough road with a lapper tucked up there.

I made the inside deadbolt knob removable so the bad guy can't unlock it if he breaks the window. If I'm inside the camper I can put it on and lock the door.
