If you go that way make sure you gas up in Winnemucca-- last time I was by Denio,it was closed. Fields, north of there was open, and you can get gas and have a milk shake too! By the way, the turn-off from 140 to the CG is marked by a sign that says it goes to the refuge HQ. It might be worth detour/quick look/stop at the Pine Forest Range as you head north on 140-been meaning to go there for a long time but have not heard how the roads are now. Been thinking I might head by there on the way home after the meet, but you know how us retired people are, may just follow my nose if someone has a better idea

Me, no freeways, especially 80. I'm going north from here on 395 to Alturas, then take 299 over the Warners to Cederville, gas up and either go east then north on 34 (gravel road) and take the back way into the Sheldon until I hit 140. From Cederville, instead, I might just go north to Fort Bidwell, then North(gravel road) to Adell, gas up then take 140 on to Virgin Valley. Not sure when I'm leaving yet, or even from where. I'm supposed to be up in the Devils Garden right now but my plans changed due to the weather. Might head up there right after the 4th for a week or so. Weather is real hot-mid 90's here for us, but you people from Sac are used to heat right! Let you know my plans later.
